In short
Sculptra is a collagen stimulator, not a quick-fill filler. Made of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), it prompts your skin to build new collagen over 2 to 3 months, so volume and firmness return gradually. Most women need about 2 to 3 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart, and results can last up to around two years.[1] Dr Mavis Pak is a female doctor offering Sculptra for the face and body in Singapore; book by WhatsApp on +65 8815 3008.
How Sculptra works
Volume you grow, rather than volume you add
From our late twenties, the skin makes less collagen each year, and for many women the change speeds up around menopause. The face loses support gradually: temples hollow, cheeks flatten, the jawline softens and skin looks thinner.
Sculptra contains microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible material the body gradually breaks down. Placed in the deeper layers, it triggers your own collagen production over the following weeks and months.[2] In the clinical study behind its 2023 US FDA approval for cheek wrinkles, 96% of patients were rated as improved at 3 months and 94% were still improved at two years.[2]
“A filler adds volume on the day. Sculptra asks your skin to rebuild it.”Dr Mavis Pak
This is why Sculptra suits women who want to look fresher without anyone being able to point to what changed. It can be combined with hyaluronic acid fillers where an immediate, precise lift is needed, and with skinboosters for surface glow.
Areas treated
Where Dr Mavis uses Sculptra
Sculptra works best where broad, gradual support is needed rather than sharp definition.
Temples
Hollow temples make the face look tired and older. Sculptra restores soft, even support.
Cheeks & mid-face
Flattened cheeks and fine cheek wrinkles, the area of its 2023 FDA approval.
Jawline & lower face
Gradual firmness along the jaw and pre-jowl area as skin loosens with age.
After weight loss
Facial hollowing after rapid weight loss, including with GLP-1 injections, once weight is stable.
Neck & décolletage
Crepey texture and fine lines on the chest and neck, with massage afterwards.
Buttocks, hip dips & arms
Off-face use for gentle shape and firmness, typically up to 3 sessions.
“Sculptra is not a lip or under-eye treatment. Those areas need a different tool.”Dr Mavis Pak

Sculptra vs other options
Sculptra, fillers, Ellansé, Radiesse, Juvelook and Profhilo
| Treatment | What it is | How results appear | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sculptra | Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator | Gradual, over 2 to 3 months; up to about 2 years | Broad volume loss: temples, cheeks, jaw, body |
| Hyaluronic acid filler | Hyaluronic acid gel | Immediate; can be dissolved | Precise shaping: lips, chin, tear trough, folds |
| Ellansé / Radiesse | Polycaprolactone / calcium hydroxylapatite | Some immediate lift plus collagen | Structure and contour |
| Juvelook / Profhilo | Skin boosters | Gradual, mainly skin quality | Hydration, texture, fine crepiness |
There is no single best option. Dr Mavis recommends based on the area, how much support is needed, and how quickly you want to see a change.
Your Sculptra course
What to expect, step by step
- Consultation: Dr Mavis assesses where volume and firmness have changed, checks your medical history, and plans the areas, number of vials and sessions with you.
- Preparation: Sculptra is reconstituted with sterile water well ahead of treatment, and lidocaine can be added for comfort.[1] Correct dilution and hydration time are part of reducing the risk of lumps.[3]
- Treatment: the product is placed in the deeper layers in small amounts across the area. A session usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes.
- Afterwards: mild swelling, tenderness and bruising are common and settle over days. You will be shown how to massage the area for several days to help the product spread evenly.
- Over the course: most women have 2 to 3 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart, with results building over the following months. In the FDA cheek study, patients received up to four treatments.[1]
“The fullness you see on the day is not the result. The water settles within days; the collagen takes months.”Dr Mavis Pak
Sculptra is not suitable if you tend to form keloid scars, have an allergy to its components or to lidocaine, or have a history of severe allergic reactions.[1] It is also postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Small nodules under the skin are a known risk of PLLA; a 2014 expert consensus linked most early problems to technique, such as dilution, depth and spacing between sessions.[3] For body areas, an international consensus published in 2025 sets out session numbers, intervals and dilution by area.[4]
